Whether you grew up with American quilts or not, and whether you think you may or may not be interested, I urge you all to go see this free exhibit. Not only is this a rare opportunity to see a vast collection of pure Americana, all amassed over three very different centuries, but just as intriguing is the way they are displayed and possibly is one of the most interesting visual and spatial experiences exhibited in New York City this year.
Without judgment, I urge my twenty something year old peers to go see this exhibit as you will be inspired and will be more prepared for the trend wave of new American quilting that is starting to show up from some very talented, young and edgy designers all across the country.
I have been working on some modern bohemian quilt ideas myself and seeing the exhibit really helped me understand the complex details and techniques that these somehow simple blankets demand.
Thanks for the beautiful photographs. I’ll take the show in tomorrow night.
